Video Recording Specifications Differ
One major difference between the HERO11 Black and the HERO5 Black is support for 5K. The HERO11 Black supports 5K at 60fps, while the HERO5 Black does not support 5K at all.
For resolutions below 4K, the HERO11 Black supports 120fps for both 4K and 2.7K. On the other hand, the HERO5 Black only supports 30fps, which is not ideal for capturing smooth footage. However, both models offer practical specs for Full HD, with the HERO11 Black supporting 240fps and the HERO5 Black supporting 120fps.
Additionally, the HERO11 Black supports 10-bit color, which is a significant advantage. With 10-bit color, the color representation is richer, allowing for more vibrant videos.
Though it may be a feature used by a specific audience, it’s worth noting that the HERO5 Black does not support live streaming, unlike the HERO11 Black.
Stabilization Differences
There are also differences in the stabilization technology. The HERO11 Black is equipped with "HyperSmooth 5.0," while the HERO5 Black uses standard stabilization that predates HyperSmooth.
"HyperSmooth 5.0" includes:
- Horizon lock (maintains level horizon up to 360 degrees)
- AutoBoost
- Powerful stabilization across various resolutions
This makes it significantly more advanced than standard stabilization. Although the HERO5 Black’s stabilization was considered excellent at the time of its release, it does not compare to the level found in the more recent HERO11 Black.
Front Display Differences
The front displays of the two models differ greatly. The HERO11 Black features a color LCD, whereas the HERO5 Black has a monochrome LCD. The color LCD allows for previewing the screen, while the monochrome display only shows numerical information such as the number of shots, leading to a substantial difference in the amount of information displayed.
This aspect also affects usability, so it's important to consider this before making a purchase decision.
Size and Mounting Differences
In terms of size, the HERO5 Black is smaller and approximately 20% lighter than the HERO11 Black.
However, the HERO11 Black has the following advantages:

Despite the increase in size and weight, the overall usability and convenience of the HERO11 Black are superior. The presence of the integrated mounting system is a significant advantage during practical use.
