The HERO11 Black supports 5K resolution and can shoot at frame rates of 60fps or higher at any resolution. In contrast, the HERO (2024) operates primarily at 30fps, making it less suited for capturing smooth footage in high-action scenes.
The HERO11 Black also features the "HyperSmooth 5.0" stabilization system, which includes:
- Horizon Lock (360° horizon leveling)
- Auto Boost
These features ensure smooth, stabilized footage even in fast-moving shots. On the other hand, the HERO (2024) relies solely on GoPro’s Quik app for post-shoot stabilization, making the app essential for applying stabilization.
If you’re planning to "shoot and enjoy later," the Quik app’s stabilization works fine. However, if you intend to share or upload your footage directly after shooting, the extra step of applying stabilization in the app can be a downside.

The HERO11 Black supports 10-bit color, live streaming, and loop recording, none of which are available on the HERO (2024). Loop recording has been a standard feature since the HERO6 generation, so its omission here is notable.
For those who want to record continuous action scenes or use their GoPro as a dash cam, the HERO11 Black is the better choice.
Differences in Size, Weight, and Features
The HERO (2024) excels in its compact and lightweight design, making it significantly smaller and lighter than the HERO11 Black, which is a major advantage for portability.
In terms of features, the HERO (2024) lacks a front display, which is a crucial difference. If you plan to use a chest mount or want to frame your shots while filming, the front display on the HERO11 Black can be much more convenient.
One interesting point in favor of the HERO (2024) is its support for microSD cards up to 1TB, providing ample storage. However, since the HERO (2024) has a built-in battery, you won’t be able to utilize the full storage capacity for continuous long-duration shooting. Nonetheless, it’s a great advantage for those who want to shoot without worrying about storage limitations.
