When comparing the spec sheets, the HERO11 Black and HERO10 Black have almost the same video recording specs. However, the HERO11 series introduces two significant changes:

1. The introduction of an 8:7 aspect ratio.
2. Support for 10-bit color.

With the 8:7 aspect ratio, it's possible to shoot videos that are closer to a square format. These videos can be cropped using the Quik app, making editing more versatile. Additionally, the 10-bit color support allows for more vibrant and diverse color expression in the footage.

However, these features can be considered upgrades for users who prioritize image quality. For users who don't find these features crucial, the HERO10 Black might be sufficient.

Image Stabilization: Supported Resolutions and Modes Differ

There are differences in the image stabilization capabilities as well. The HERO11 Black features "HyperSmooth 5.0," while the HERO10 Black has "HyperSmooth 4.0¹."

Both models include a horizon lock feature, but "HyperSmooth 5.0" also has an auto boost. As the generations progress, the performance of HyperSmooth improves, so you can expect better stabilization from the HERO11 Black.

Physical Specs are Almost the Same

In terms of body size, weight, and supported storage capacity, the HERO11 Black and HERO10 Black are almost identical, apart from internal differences. Therefore, it's not an exaggeration to say that the HERO11 Black is a minor upgrade of the HERO10 Black.

As of 2024, the HERO11 Black is a current sales model, making it the best option for buying a new, affordable GoPro. On the other hand, if you prefer to save money and buy a used one, the HERO10 Black is the best choice.
