Key Factors

1

Differences in video quality

The HERO10 supports 5K/60fps and other resolutions up to 120fps. The HERO8 does not support 5K and supports up to 60fps for 4K and below.

2

Different front display

The usability differs significantly based on whether the front display is a color LCD or a monochrome LCD.

3

Different HyperSmooth generation

The stabilization capability differs greatly with features like horizon lock and auto-boost.

Differences in Video Quality

The most significant difference between the HERO10 Black and the HERO8 Black is the video quality.

The HERO10 Black supports 5K video at a practical frame rate of 60fps. It also supports 120fps or higher at other resolutions, allowing for smooth video playback.

In contrast, the HERO8 Black does not support 5K video, and its maximum frame rate for resolutions below 4K is 60fps. Therefore, there is a considerable difference in the video quality that can be captured.

However, for Full HD video, both models can record at 240fps. If you only plan to shoot in Full HD, there is no difference in video quality between the two models.

Differences in Front Display

The HERO10 Black features a color LCD on the front display, whereas the HERO8 Black has a monochrome LCD.

The color LCD on the HERO10 Black allows for front previewing, significantly improving usability. Therefore, the difference in the front display is a major distinction between the two models.

Differences in HyperSmooth Generations

There are also differences in the stabilization technology. The HERO10 Black is equipped with "HyperSmooth 4.01," while the HERO8 Black has "HyperSmooth 2.02."

The major difference lies in the horizon lock feature. The HERO10 Black supports maintaining a horizontal lock up to 45 degrees, while the HERO8 Black does not have a horizon lock feature.
