Generation of the SoC

The most notable difference between the HERO12 Black and the HERO8 Black is the video recording specs.
The HERO12 Black supports up to 5K at 60fps and up to 120fps at lower resolutions, allowing high-quality video recording at any resolution. In contrast, the HERO8 Black does not support 5K video and is limited to 60fps at 4K and 2.7K.
For general use, 4K at 60fps is sufficient, but if you want to shoot higher quality footage, the HERO12 Black is a better choice.
Different Image Stabilization
The HERO12 Black features "HyperSmooth 6.01" while the HERO8 Black has "HyperSmooth 2.02," highlighting a significant generational difference.
HyperSmooth 6.0 not only includes auto boost and horizon lock features but also provides advanced stabilization in any shooting mode, including high-resolution, slow motion, and time-lapse. The updated algorithms make it smoother and more powerful, almost comparable to a gimbal.
While HyperSmooth 2.0 also offers stabilization, it is somewhat weaker compared to HyperSmooth 6.0.
