Video Recording Specs Differ
The HERO11 Black supports 60fps even at its highest resolution of 5K, and can handle over 120fps at other resolutions, allowing for smooth video recording even at high resolutions. In contrast, the HERO9 Black supports a maximum of 30fps at 5K, and is limited to 60fps at 4K and 2.7K. This difference will be noticeable in action videos or other scenes where frame rate is crucial.
Additionally, the HERO11 Black's support for 10-bit color is a significant feature. With 10-bit color, you can achieve richer color expression and more vibrant videos.
However, for general use, 60fps is still sufficient for capturing high-quality video, making the HERO9 Black a high-spec option as well.
HyperSmooth Generations Differ
There are also differences in the built-in image stabilization. The HERO11 Black features "HyperSmooth 5.0," while the HERO9 Black comes with "HyperSmooth 3.01."
Both models have horizon lock functionality, but the HERO11 Black supports 360-degree horizon lock compared to the 45-degree limit of the HERO9 Black. Furthermore, the HERO11 Black's "HyperSmooth 5.0" includes auto boost, offering more powerful and precise image stabilization. If image stabilization capability is a priority, the HERO11 Black is the best choice.
Physical Specs are Nearly the Same
The HERO11 Black and HERO9 Black share the same body size and nearly the same weight, making them almost identical in appearance aside from internal differences. However, the HERO11 Black supports micro SD cards up to 512GB, while the HERO9 Black is limited to 256GB. This means that if you plan to record high-quality, long-duration videos, you may need to swap micro SD cards with the HERO9 Black more frequently.
