Front Screen Upgraded to Color LCD

The standout feature of the HERO9 is undoubtedly the upgrade of the front screen from monochrome dots to a color LCD.

Though it's a small window, this advancement allows for checking footage on the front screen when shooting towards the GoPro or in situations where the rear screen, such as with helmet mounts, is difficult to see. It's a significant evolution within the GoPro series.

However, this enhancement does come with an increase in the device's weight, a trade-off worth considering.

First-ever 5K Video Support in the GoPro Series

The HERO9 introduces support for 5K video, a step up from the previous maximum of 4K in the GoPro lineup. Although the frame rate is not exceptionally high at 30fps, it still enables captivating wide-angle video recording, including the background.

Substantial Increase in Battery Capacity

While previous GoPro models up to HERO8 featured a standard 1220mAh battery, the HERO9 sees an upgrade to a new battery.

With a capacity increase to 1720mAh, approximately 40% higher, longer recording times are achievable under equivalent quality settings.

The HERO9 was the first model to introduce the larger 1,720mAh battery standard shared by the HERO10 through HERO12. It won't take the newest generation's batteries, but upgrading to an Enduro battery can significantly boost this older camera's performance in cold conditions.

The maximum supported microSD card capacity is 512GB. While it falls short of the HERO13's 1TB limit, it is crucial to use a high-speed UHS-I U3 or faster card to ensure smooth recording of the camera's signature 5K/30fps video.
