MISSION 1

  • The MISSION 1 dominates in video performance, featuring a 1-inch sensor and GP3 processor capable of 8K/30fps recording.
  • Huge improvements for long shooting sessions with the larger Enduro 2 battery and magnetic power mount support.
  • The HERO13 Black remains a solid choice if you're on a budget or want to leverage the extensive HB-Series lens lineup.

Key Factors

1

Major leap in specs and image quality

The MISSION 1 packs a massive 1-inch sensor and GP3 processor for 8K/30fps, a huge step up from the HERO13 Black (1/1.9-inch sensor, 5.3K).

2

Better battery and continuous shooting

Thanks to a high-capacity 2150mAh Enduro 2 battery and magnetic charging support, the MISSION 1 excels at long recording sessions.

3

Hardware and mounting systems

Both models feature a magnetic latch mount, delivering the same seamless usability.

A Massive Leap in Video Specs and Image Quality

The GoPro HERO13 Black is the 2024 flagship, featuring a 1/1.9-inch sensor paired with the GP2 processor to capture up to 5.3K/60fps and 4K/120fps video.

In contrast, the GoPro MISSION 1 steps things up with a next-generation 1-inch sensor and the all-new GP3 processor. Pushing well past the traditional HERO Black series, it unlocks 8K/30fps and 4K/120fps open-gate recording. This allows for truly cinematic footage with incredible resolution and massive dynamic range.

Color science has also seen a major overhaul. While the HERO13 Black offered 10-bit color and GP-Log, the MISSION 1 introduces LUT-supported "GP-Log2," giving creators way more flexibility for pro-level color grading and post-production.

MISSION 1 is the Clear Winner for Slow-Motion While the HERO 13 Black features a Burst Slow-Motion mode that the MISSION 1 lacks, the MISSION 1 actually delivers superior slow-motion performance.

This is because, even though the MISSION 1 doesn't have a short-duration burst slow-motion feature, it supports 16x slow-motion (1440p/1080p) during standard continuous recording. As a result, its slow-motion capabilities far exceed those of the HERO 13 Black, which only reaches a maximum of 13.3x (720p) using burst slow-motion.

Upgraded Battery and Seamless Continuous Power

The HERO13 Black relies on a 1900mAh Enduro battery. While it features optimized thermal management and power efficiency, extended continuous recording still requires the hassle of rigging an external power source.

The MISSION 1 tackles this head-on with a massive 2150mAh "Enduro 2" battery, pushing standalone continuous recording times up to 5 hours. Better yet, it supports direct USB-C power delivery via a magnetic door and power cable kit, letting you easily run long continuous takes while keeping the camera fully waterproof.

When it comes to mounting, both cameras use the quick-release magnetic latch system. This means you get the same fast, frustration-free setup and seamless compatibility with your existing accessories across both models.
