Charging standards for successive generations of GoPro

GoPro charging standards vary by model and generation. The MISSION 1 series supports fast charging via USB PD (PPS) and 18W adapters.

  1. MISSION 1 Series

    USB PD (PPS) / 9V 2A (18W) Fast Charging

When paired with the high-capacity Enduro 2 (AGBAT-001) battery and a compatible charger, the MISSION 1 series (MISSION 1 / PRO / PRO ILS) supports fast charging. Note that charging directly in the camera body uses USB PD (Power Delivery).

  • Using a USB PD (PPS compatible) charger:
    • Up to 80% charge: approx. 27 minutes
    • Up to 100% (full charge): approx. 54–60 minutes
  • Using a 9V/2A (18W) charger:
    • Up to 80% charge: approx. 32 minutes
    • Up to 100% (full charge): approx. 56 minutes

What to consider when charging your GoPro.

Use a Compatible Charger for Your GoPro

When charging your device with an AC adapter or mobile battery, using a model that matches the required output can help prevent battery degradation. In addition, using a compatible charger allows for faster charging speeds.

Starting with the HERO 5, the USB charging standard changed from the older 5V/1A to 5V/2A. Therefore, it's important to use a charger that supports the updated standard. If you're charging via a PC USB port, make sure to check the power output specifications of that port.

The simplest way is to use a USB charger, but since output quality varies between brands, it's best to choose reliable manufacturers like Anker.

If you use HERO 5 or later, pay attention to the USB cable.

There are charging standards that are compatible with USB cables.

Some USB cables are not 5V/1A, so if you are using a GoPro HERO 5 or later with 10W charging, it will not only slow down the charging speed, but may also cause battery degradation.

GoPro basically charges at 5V, so use a USB cable with a corresponding amperage of 2A or higher.

Recently, e-commerce stores such as Amazon sell 2A and 2.4A compatible USB cables at low prices, so be sure to check the packaging when purchasing.
